I noticed after several uses of an Imperial Ring, that the 'destryoed' text read "Your Imperial Ring has turned into an Imperial Ring". Now I remember there being several tiers of these, and I had thought that on Des it maybe just turned into a lower tier, but viewing the details in the 'Transfer Item' interface, it still had the Alito power, same AC bonus, etc. Possibly, there could be a data entry error somewhere that has this ring disintegrating into itself again (endless uses it seems).
I'm using this ring to level up a new character, so lots of chance to test variable situations if you need.
